Good to know
This is raw shielding material — not a finished consumer product. It is sold by the linear foot for custom DIY applications. Each linear foot measures 12” × 19”. Ordering multiple units results in a single continuous roll (e.g., 3 units = one continuous piece of 36” × 19”). This product uses Signature Shielding technology, which blocks both ELF and RF. It is a different technology and format than the Ultra Armor® or Ultra Armor+® used in DefenderShield’s device cases, phone shields, and laptop products. EMF Shielding By The Foot is not covered by DefenderShield’s return policy or 1-year warranty.

Description

The Same Shielding — Your Own Application

🛡 Signature Shielding Technology — ELF + RF in One Layer

DefenderShield’s Signature Shielding uses nanotechnology to incorporate metals into a single laminated layer. That layer blocks two categories of electromagnetic radiation: Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) emissions from batteries and power sources (up to 98% attenuation), and wireless Radio Frequency (RF) emissions up to 40 GHz (up to 99% attenuation). The RF coverage spans WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular signals, and low- to mid-band 5G. This is the same core shielding technology used across DefenderShield’s product lineup — now sold as raw material for custom projects.

Sold by the Foot — Cut, Shape, and Install

✂️ 12” × 19” Per Unit — Continuous Roll for Larger Orders

Each unit is one linear foot: 12” long × 19” wide, weighing 1.34 oz. Order multiple units and they ship as a single continuous roll — three units arrive as one uncut piece of 36” × 19”, six units as 72” × 19”, and so on. The material can be cut with standard scissors or a utility knife to fit your application. No special tools required.

Custom Applications — Walls, Enclosures, and More

🏠 DIY Shielding for Home, Office, and Personal Use

The shielding material opens up applications that finished products cannot cover. Line the interior of a structured bag or laptop sleeve. Install it behind drywall, under flooring, or inside a room to reduce ambient wireless exposure from neighboring units, cell towers, or office equipment. Build a custom Faraday-style enclosure to block RF signals from reaching a specific area or device. The material is flexible enough to conform to curved surfaces and rigid enough to hold shape when mounted flat.

Independent Testing

Figure (Left) DefenderShield Signature Shielding displays robust shielding across the extremely low frequency (ELF) domain with a signal percent attenuation 99.0%. (Right) DefenderShield Signature Shielding maintains robust shielding across the complete radio frequency (RF) domain with a signal percent attenuation 99.0%. The signal percent attenuation (%) is the linear transformation of the logarithmic shielding effectiveness (SE) (dB) values.
How to use

Working with the Material

1. Order the quantity you need. Each unit is one linear foot (12” × 19”). Calculate the total area you need to cover and order enough units to cover it. Multiple units arrive as a single continuous roll.

2. Cut to size. Use standard scissors or a utility knife to cut the material to your dimensions. Mark your cuts before cutting — the material cannot be spliced back together after cutting. However, it is still effective with overlap between the cut pieces.

3. Position the shielding. Place the material between the EMF source and the body area or space you want to shield. The shielding works when it sits between you and the source of radiation. For pre-wall installation, mount behind drywall or paneling with the shielding facing the radiation source. If you are adding to the surface of a finished wall, ensure proper adhesion to the painted or unpainted surface of the wall.4. Secure in place. Depending on your application, use adhesive to hold the material in position. Be mindful of creating holes in the material with staples or pins because emissions can leak through. The laminated surface accepts most standard adhesives.

Common Applications

Device shielding: Line the interior of a phone pouch, laptop bag, or tablet sleeve to add ELF and RF shielding to an existing case or carrier.

Room shielding: Install behind walls or under flooring to reduce ambient wireless radiation entering a room from neighboring spaces, outdoor cell towers, or shared building infrastructure.

Faraday enclosures: Build a custom enclosure that blocks RF signals from reaching a specific device or area — useful for cybersecurity, signal isolation, or privacy.

Important Notes

• The material blocks ELF and RF only when it sits between the radiation source and the area you are protecting. Gaps, holes, seams, or openings in the shielding reduce effectiveness.

• For full 360° signal blocking (Faraday-style), the enclosure must be fully sealed with overlapping material and no gaps. A single pinpoint opening allows RF signals to pass through.

• This material blocks signals in both directions. If you enclose a device (e.g., a phone inside a custom-built Faraday box), the device will lose all connectivity — no calls, texts, WiFi, Bluetooth, or GPS.

Do not wash the shielding material. Clean the surface with a dry cloth only. Submerging in water or machine washing will degrade the laminated shielding layer.

Seems like it works!

I got this as a gift for my mom who has been complaining about not being able to sleep in her bed due to it being right under a breaker box. She’s been sleeping on her couch. Anyways, she tacked it over her box a couple of weeks ago and she sent me this text today:

I sleep so good every night now!  The only thing that’s changed is the fabric you got for me. Thank you soooo much!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

EMF Shielding By The Foot FAQ

Two categories of EMF radiation: ELF and RF. Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) emissions from batteries and power sources are attenuated by up to 98%. Wireless Radio Frequency (RF) emissions from 0 to 40 GHz are attenuated by up to 99%. The RF coverage includes WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular, GPS, NFC, and low- to mid-band 5G. The material does not cover high-band mmWave 5G (over 40 GHz).

Shielding by the Foot is DefenderShield's Signature Shielding technology. DefenderShield’s finished products (cases, blankets, clothing) use Signature Shielding or its advanced successors — Ultra Armor (RF up to 2.5 THz) and Ultra Armor+ (RF + ELF up to 2.5 THz). This raw material uses the Signature Shielding formulation, which covers ELF and RF up to 40 GHz. The finished products incorporate the shielding into engineered, multi-layer product designs with additional features (card slots, closures, fit, comfort).

Signature Shielding covers ELF and RF up to 40 GHz. Ultra Armor covers RF up to 2.5 THz, which includes high-band mmWave 5G. Ultra Armor+ adds ELF coverage on top of the 2.5 THz RF range. Signature Shielding includes ELF but has a narrower RF frequency range than either Ultra Armor variant. Ultra Armor and Ultra Armor+ are not available as raw material — they are built into finished DefenderShield products only.

Calculate the area you need to cover in square inches, then divide by 228 (12” × 19” per unit). For example, to shield a wall section measuring 4 feet × 3 feet (1,728 sq in), you would need approximately 8 units. Multiple units ship as a single continuous roll — so 8 units arrive as one piece measuring 96” × 19”. For wider coverage, you will need to layer strips side by side with overlapping edges to minimize gaps.

No. The shielding material is a laminated composite. Submerging in water or machine washing will degrade the lamination and reduce shielding effectiveness. Clean the surface with a dry cloth only. If you sew the material into a garment or pillowcase, remove the shielding insert before washing the outer fabric.

Yes. The material blocks both ELF and RF when used to form a complete enclosure. For full signal blocking, the enclosure must be sealed on all sides with no gaps. Any opening — including seams that are not properly overlapped — allows RF signals to enter. Overlap seams by at least 1” and use conductive tape or adhesive to maintain shielding continuity at joints.

It depends on how you install the material. If you shield one wall of a room, devices in the room will still receive signals from other directions. If you enclose a device completely (Faraday-style), the device will lose all wireless connectivity — no calls, texts, WiFi, Bluetooth, or GPS. That is how Faraday shielding works by design.
