Our Story Daniel DeBaun, a telecommunications engineer, founded DefenderShield in 2011 with his son Ryan after a "light bulb moment" during the holidays when his wife expressed concerns about the radiation from their sons' laptops. After researching EMF radiation's harmful effects, Daniel realized there was no product on the market that fully blocked it.

Daniel T. DeBaun Engineer, Founder and Chairman of the Board

Daniel is an internationally recognized and influential expert in shielding electronic emissions and Electromagnetic Radiation (EMF) protection, with a particular focus on the effect of exposure from mobile devices such as laptops, tablets and cell phones. Daniel’s concern regarding the health impact of electronic radiation emissions grew from over 30 years of engineering experience in the telecommunications industry, where he held a variety of leadership and executive positions at Bell Labs, AT&T, SAIC and Telcordia.

Through the course of his career, Daniel has created requirements for large telecommunication systems, led technical divisions responsible for establishing industry standards and formed analysis adherence testing for next-generation digital transmission systems. Daniel also oversaw laboratories which analyzed electromagnetic radiation (EMF) interference, electrical signals and digital formats. He and the teams he led were looked upon as industry authorities.

Daniel is the inventor of DefenderShield®, the most effective EMF radiation protection technology for mobile devices ever developed. In addition to his work with DefenderShield®, Daniel is a highly regarded author, industry consultant, writer, and speaker as well as a frequent guest on national radio and television programs discussing EMF health issues.

Daniel is co-author of the bestselling book, Radiation Nation: The Fallout of Modern Technology, the complete guide to EMF radiation safety and protection.

Kylen Ribeiro CEO

Kylen is the Chief Executive Officer at DefenderShield, and is responsible for leading the strategic growth of the company. After growing up in Raleigh, NC, Kylen moved to Tallahassee, FL to complete her lifelong swimming career at Florida State University as the Women’s Swimming and Diving Team Captain. Kylen graduated with a B.S. in Marketing and Management and married her fellow teammate turned husband. She continued her education as a Seminole and went on to earn her Masters in Business Administration.

Upon finishing school, Kylen secured an executive management position with one of the largest International retailers in the world, where she spent over 6 years honing a wide skill set that allowed her to make an immediate impact at DefenderShield.

In 2016, while pregnant with her son, Kylen completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program at a prominent studio in Tampa, FL, where she met DefenderShield co-founder, Ryan DeBaun. 

Kylen knew what a special opportunity it would be to join DefenderShield, the pioneers of a new industry in the digital wellness space. She began working with Ryan and Daniel DeBaun in 2017 and has been a key aspect in the company’s growth since then.

In her personal time (wait, do moms even have personal time?), Kylen enjoys time with family and friends, reliving childhood with her sons (which she now has 2 of), practicing yoga, traveling, eating delicious food, and enjoying the outdoors and water.

Michelle Zofrea COO

Michelle is the COO at DefenderShield, and is responsible for overseeing and managing all daily operations, including marketing, logistics, shipping, product development, and customer service. 

Michelle grew up playing volleyball in Palm Beach, Florida, before attending Elon University in North Carolina to play NCAA volleyball. She graduated with a BA in Journalism and minors in Health & Wellness Education and Business Administration.

From there she joined DefenderShield as the Marketing Manager, and became an integral part of DefenderShield’s fast-growing team. Her keen marketing mindset, intuitive analyzing, and smart decision-making has made her a valuable asset and collaborator, and has helped unite the organization across departments.

As a lifelong holistic health student and athlete, Michelle is passionate about DefenderShield’s mission of increasing awareness of digital wellness.

Michelle enjoys playing volleyball when she can, biking, yoga, and traveling. She resides in St. Petersburg, Florida, with her husband, Zack, her dog Oakley, and a lot of half-dead plants.
