How Does EMF Hat Shielding Work?
All three hats have a silver-based shielding fabric lining on the interior. Silver is highly conductive - when silver fibers are woven or threaded into fabric, they form a conductive mesh that reflects and absorbs wireless RF radiation before it reaches the skin underneath. The shielding is passive: no batteries, no charging, no activation. Put the hat on and the lining shields whatever head area it covers.
Is This the Same Technology as DefenderShield Phone Cases?
No. Phone cases use Ultra Armor® or Ultra Armor+® - rigid, multi-layer composites designed to block radiation from a specific device at close range. Hats use silver-based shielding fabric designed to be soft, flexible, breathable, and wearable against the head for extended periods. Both block wireless RF radiation, but the materials and applications are different. Hats shield your head from ambient environmental sources (WiFi routers, cell towers, Bluetooth devices). Device cases shield you from a specific device (your phone, your laptop).
Choosing by Use Case
Year-round daily wear with UV protection → Baseball Cap. The Baseball Cap ($84.99) is a structured mid-profile cap with a silver shielding interior that blocks up to 99% of RF radiation (300 Hz–10 GHz). The 90% Nylon / 10% Spandex outer provides UV protection from the brim and crown. The VELCRO® back strap has no opening - the shielding wraps continuously around the crown with no gap. Antimicrobial silver lining. Black. Fits up to 23.5” circumference.
Cold-weather head shielding → Winter Beanie. The Winter Beanie ($51.99) is a warm cotton-acrylic knit (60% Cotton / 40% Acrylic outer) with a silver-threaded polyester liner (42% Silver / 53% Polyester / 5% Nylon). Blocks up to 99% of ambient wireless RF radiation. Frequency range not specified by DefenderShield. Stretchy pull-on fit for most head sizes (18–26”). Lightweight at 2.1 oz. Designed for cold-weather wear, commuting, travel, and indoor use near wireless devices.
Year-round family coverage (baby, child, adult) → Beanie Cap. The Beanie Cap ($34.99) is a lightweight Cotton/Nylon/Spandex knit with a 100% silver fiber inner lining that blocks up to 99% of RF radiation (300 Hz–10 GHz). Available in three sizes: Baby/Small (~14–17”), Child/Medium (~20–25”), and Adult/Large (~23–28”) - the only EMF hat in the DefenderShield lineup sized for the whole family. Foldable brim for adjustable forehead and ear coverage. Antimicrobial. Gray and Deep Ocean Teal. Year-round.
Layering for More Coverage
Each hat shields the head area it covers - top and sides. None of the hats cover the face, neck, or ears fully. For neck and upper-body coverage, pair with the EMF Protection Wrap Scarf. For hand shielding, add the EMF Protection Gloves. The Beanie Cap is thin enough to layer under a helmet, another hat, or the Hooded Jacket’s hood.
What These Hats Do Not Do
Each hat shields only the head area the fabric covers. The face, ears (partially, depending on fit), and neck are not shielded. No single hat provides full-head coverage. The hats block ambient wireless RF radiation from the environment - they do not block radiation from a device you are holding. None of the hats cover high-band mmWave 5G (24 GHz+). The Winter Beanie’s tested frequency range has not been specified by DefenderShield. See individual product pages for exact specifications.
What Makes DefenderShield Hats Different?
Shielding performance is independently tested - not self-reported. The silver-based linings in the Baseball Cap and Beanie Cap are naturally antimicrobial. Every product is designed by a team led by Daniel T. DeBaun, a 30-year telecommunications industry veteran, with input from DefenderShield’s Medical Advisory Board.

EMF Protection Hats FAQ
1. Is the shielding in these hats the same as DefenderShield phone cases?
No. Phone cases use Ultra Armor® or Ultra Armor+®, which are rigid composites designed for device-level shielding. Hats use silver-based shielding fabric designed for wearable comfort against the head. Both block wireless RF radiation, but the materials and frequency ranges differ.
2. What frequency range do the hats cover?
The Baseball Cap and Beanie Cap are specified at 300 Hz–10 GHz, which covers WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular, and low- to mid-band 5G. The Winter Beanie’s tested frequency range has not been specified by DefenderShield. None of the hats cover high-band mmWave 5G (24 GHz+). See individual product pages for exact specifications.
3. Which hat should I choose?
It depends on your climate, style preference, and who needs coverage. The Baseball Cap is structured with UV protection and no back opening - best for year-round daily outdoor wear. The Winter Beanie has a warm cotton-acrylic shell - best for cold weather. The Beanie Cap is lightweight with a foldable brim and comes in baby, child, and adult sizes - best for year-round use and families.
4. Are there sizes for children and babies?
The Beanie Cap is the only hat with baby and child sizes. Baby/Small fits approximately 14–17” circumference, Child/Medium fits approximately 20–25”, and Adult/Large fits approximately 23–28”. The Baseball Cap (up to 23.5”) and Winter Beanie (18–26”) are adult-sized only.
5. Does the Baseball Cap have a gap at the back?
No. The VELCRO® back strap has no opening - the shielding coverage wraps continuously around the crown from front to back. Unlike standard baseball caps with a cutout behind the strap, this cap has a seamless shielding surface across the entire crown.
6. Can I layer a hat with other DefenderShield clothing?
Yes. The Beanie Cap is thin enough to wear under another hat, a helmet, or the DefenderShield Hooded Jacket’s hood. Pair any hat with the Wrap Scarf for neck coverage and the Gloves for hand shielding. Multiple products layered together increase the total body area shielded.
7. How do I wash the hats without damaging the shielding?
Gentle handwashing in cold water and air drying. Do not bleach, machine wash, iron shielding fabric, or tumble dry. The silver linings in the Baseball Cap and Beanie Cap are naturally antimicrobial, reducing the need for frequent washing. Specific care instructions are included with each product.
8. What is the return policy?
DefenderShield offers a 30-day return window with a full refund if unsatisfied. All hats include a 1-year manufacturer warranty covering material defects and shielding performance. See full returns policy → defendershield.com/pages/returns
9. Are these products HSA/FSA eligible?
Yes. DefenderShield EMF protection hats are HSA/FSA eligible. Visit defendershield.com/pages/hsa-fsa-savings for details on how to apply your health savings or flexible spending account at checkout.
